Why do my injuries keep coming back - even after rest or treatment

Injuries rarely occur at random. They usually come from repeated patterns – a root cause that was never identified, a return to sport that was rushed, or the same habits continuing in the same environment that caused the issue in the first place.

If nothing meaningful changes, the cycle continues. Injury prevention coaching focuses on preparing your body for the demands of sport and daily life – not just managing pain when it appears.

How injury prevention coaching works

The process follows a simple structure: understand, plan, and progress – tailored to you.

1. Understand and Identify What's Limiting You

We look beyond symptoms to identify why injuries or setbacks keep recurring. This includes understanding your background, injury and training history, sporting demands, lifestyle habits, recovery options and more.

2. Create an Individualized Plan

Based on the assessment, a personalized program is developed to address what’s limiting you, focusing on solutions that are effective, realistic, and sustainable for your sport and lifestyle.

3. Progress Towards Your Actual Demands

The plan is progressed intentionally to match the real demands of your sport or lifestyle – so returning to play doesn’t mean repeating the same injury cycle patterns or relying on short-term relief that expires.

Throughout the process, coaching guidance and adjustments are provided to support correct execution, better decision-making, and long-term consistency.

Who injury prevention coaching is for

This is a good fit if you:

  • are active or play sport regularly
  • experience recurring injuries, flare-ups, or persistent pain

  • feel limited by your body despite resting or trying other approaches

  • want to return to sport or training with more confidence and measurable improvement

  • are willing to train consistently and make adjustments over time

This may not be a good fit if you:

  • are looking only for passive treatment or quick fixes

  • want to perform better without changing how you move, train, recover, or think

  • are unwilling to commit time and effort to the process

This helps ensure the experience is a good fit for both parties.

If you’re unsure whether this is the right fit, we can clarify this during the initial phone conversation.

Results with active adults and athletes

Clients who work on injury prevention coaching commonly report:

  • Fewer recurring flare-ups during training and daily activity

  • Improved confidence returning to sport

  • Better training consistency over time

Rather than short-term fixes, the focus is on building a body that can handle ongoing demands.

From Recurring Knee Pain to the HYROX Start Line

A recreational athlete came in with knee pain that kept returning. Not a dramatic injury – the familiar kind that settled with rest, then came back a couple of weeks into training again. They’d tried the standard advice: rest longer, strengthen more, manage the load. It helped for a week or two, then the same flare returned.

The knee wasn’t the problem. It was the symptom which hid a deeper, unaddressed pattern.

Once the actual limiting factor was identified and the solution was built for it, the recurring flare-ups stopped dictating their week. They went back to training, and eventually set their sights on a HYROX race – an event most people with their knee history would have been told to either lower their expectation, or avoid it completely (Read: Why Your HYROX Knee Pain Keep Coming Back).

Because the cause had been addressed, not just the symptom managed.
